Monument, 2025. 3h

This is a design I did for a wall calendar prop for the video project I've mentioned before. It came together extremely quickly, and represents a media company which exists in an alternate universe, and maybe someday in this one.

My brother and I have had a lot of conversations about the role of AI art in our work. I do not want to put words in the man's mouth, so I will say only that I'm a hardliner ("AI does not belong in real art") and his perspective is more nuanced. What has happened in practice is that I foam at the mouth when he asks ChatGPT to make something for the program, even placeholder content, and my foaming dissent leads to me getting shit done. Gratifyingly I do much better work than ChatGPT – for now – but I wonder how much collaboration is going to happen between human artists five years in the future. Art is about challenging things, and an algorithm that says yes to everyone and checks the output against an acceptable content policy isn't going to challenge a goddamn thing.
